Types of Concrete Foundations

The Foundation Installation Process

Foundation work starts with excavation. We dig to the depth specified in your plans, which depends on frost depth, soil conditions, and building loads. The excavation needs to be precise because the dimensions affect everything built on top of it.

Next, we form the footings and foundation walls. Footings spread the building load over a larger area and prevent settling. They need to be sized correctly and positioned at the right depth. We install steel reinforcement according to the engineer's specifications, which typically includes rebar in a grid pattern.

Once the forms and reinforcement are in place and inspected, we pour the concrete. Foundation concrete needs to be high strength and properly consolidated to eliminate voids and weak spots. We work with concrete suppliers to ensure the right mix design for foundation work.

After the concrete cures, we strip the forms and backfill around the foundation. Proper backfilling and compaction prevent settlement and keep foundation walls from shifting. We also install drainage systems when required to keep water away from the foundation.
